Acting is a funny industry to work in. It can be immensely rewarding some days and then full of emptyness the next.
I read a quote the other day that said "Actors have two jobs. One is to look for work and the other is to act. You have to be constantly doing the first in order to be able to do the latter". So so true.
Putting a great deal of effort into looking for work does appear to pay off, with a little patience. I have spent a great deal of time searching for new opportunities and writing to loads of casting directors and agents over the past couple of months and now it seems the fruit of my labour is beginning to pay off.
Just this week alone I have been contacted by 3 directors regarding films coming up very soon, 2 look like definates and one needs an audition. All three are speaking main character roles rather than just background extras, which is really exciting. There are also a number of other quite exciting projects bubbling away in the background.
None of this has been handed to me on a plate. I have had to go searching.
And so just tlike the number 7 bus, you dont see one for ages then 3 come at once!!!!
So if you want to get on in this industry, having a good agent is very important but dont just sit back and wait for them to phone you. Get up off your backside and go looking for work yourself. Its out there!!!
